We’re All on the Titanic

We’re All on the Titanic

As biblical prophecy continues to come to stunning fulfillment - and at breakneck speed - all around us, I’m seeing how we all process the “realities” of what is happening around us in such vastly different ways. It’s absolutely fascinating, perplexing, frustrating, and baffling all at the same time. We’ve landed in a place where each and every one of us is walking in a different “reality” - even within the same household as a result of modern technology and computer algorithms.

In years past, most communities would navigate basically within the same “news/current events” construct. Whether through newspapers, the family TV, the local church, or the local town gathering spot in the days of old, people within the same proximity would walk in much the same knowledge and information data set. Today, this is so vastly different because almost without exception, every single person on the planet has a different information/news source within their smartphone or computer. Algorithms start feeding us information based on any number of factors to the point where now we are virtually living in totally different “truths” than those people even within our own households.

Not long ago there was yet another horrible and very dark event that took the lives of now over ten people. And even though I was quite interested with the circumstances surrounding this event because of my avid truth-seeking bent, I quickly got tired of the constant coverage it was receiving in all my social media platforms after a couple of weeks. In a discussion with my husband I brought this topic up and he hadn’t even heard about it. Wait!!! What?!?! This absolutely blew my mind. He’s a very smart man that listens to the news, teaches business marketing at a very prestigious university in the Master’s level program here in Washington, DC, has built - and manages - several businesses in multiple states. We talk often and in-depth about many, many things every single day. How could it be possible that we were navigating such different worlds, all within the same house and marital union?

My husband and I press HARD for radical unity in our relationship. And let me tell you how much easier this was when we were raising our children and navigating the daily decisions of life in that season. Now that just about everything that we’ve believed to be true all our lives is proving to be false, much of what we formerly held to be true is now a shaky foundation at best. In recent years, our discussions have ramped up several notches in intensity as we’re traversing such new territory for us. However difficult these discussions can be, we both deeply believe our solid unity is worth whatever price that is required we pay.

That said, this instance of my husband not even knowing about what was all over my newsfeed for weeks helped me understand so much better why we are all walking in so much deception that feels like truth. Our own newsfeeds is our “reality”. And yet it isn’t. No wonder the world and all of our vastly differing opinions seem so neurotic and perplexing to fathom.

As I’ve been searching for an illustration of what I’m seeing, the Titanic and its maiden voyage comes to mind. We’re all on the same journey, with the same demise facing us all but operating from vastly different vantage points. I see this in churches, hear this in sermons, and observe this in social media posts. The fact is that we’re all living the same reality but marching to the beat of very different drummers. Every single one of us.

As I’m reading and gaining a much deeper understanding of scripture and biblical prophecy, it’s impossible to miss the writing on the wall of what lies ahead of us. Everything in me wants to warn others to be prepared for what we are facing as well as point them to the location of the lifeboats (aka salvation through Jesus) that will lead them to safety when all hell breaks loose once we’ve hit the proverbial “iceberg” that scripture clearly warns us about.

I show up at our local church on a Sunday and hear everything about everything from modern-day circuses and distractions (sports, movies, entertainment, etc.) to all the upcoming events designed to keep us all unaware of the times in which we are living. It’s maddening and yet no one seems to care - nor does there seem to be a place for us “watchmen/women” intel gatherers within the Church. Where is the place for us in our local churches where we can honor, practice, and grow in what is required of us as ‘watchmen/women?  Ezekiel 33:6-9 says, “But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, so that the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any one of them, that person is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at the watchman's hand. So you, son of man, I have made a watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall give them warning from me. If I say to the wicked, O wicked one, you shall surely die, and you do not speak to warn the wicked to turn from his way, that wicked person shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand. But if you warn the wicked to turn from his way, and he does not turn from his way, that person shall die in his iniquity, but you will have delivered your soul.”

I see some of the same mentors that taught me all about spiritual warfare, my truest identity as well as the realities of the world in which we are living, walking around in total oblivion. Or naively pretending everything is okay.

I hear sermon upon sermon saying things that make me want to believe life will eventually return to normal. You know, “the good ole’ days”! And yet, if all of this evil and corruption has been at play since the beginning of time, do we really want a return to this? I don’t any longer knowing what I now know. Ignorance is not always bliss. It leads to entrapment and a snare.

The analogy that continues to come to my heart and mind when I show up at a gathering of believers that should be walking in more truth, discernment, and awareness of the times in which we are living, is that of a luxury cruise liner versus a warship. It might even be more like a Carnival Cruise Line voyage: fun, cheap, and easily booked but they’re totally unprepared and equipped to navigate the storms that are very, very rapidly approaching our land according to Scripture.

I hate being the bearer of any bad news but I also strongly believe that telling people the truth is vital. It is similar to a doctor not wanting to tell their patient that they have cancer but also knowing that their not knowing this will possibly lead to their early demise. It’s not a pleasant task, in the least, but a flattering tongue will lead them to an early - and potentially horrifying and excruciating - death.

I would rather tell people the truth so that they might be saved. If they hate me or are deeply offended in the process, so be it. This disdain comes with the territory of being a watchman, but it is a cost I will gladly pay. I never want to offer my Savior any sacrifice that hasn’t cost me everything.
